THE ART OF FORGETTING – Zerial Art Project

You are warmly invited to the opening of the exhibition The Art of Forgetting, on Tuesday, 3 June 2025 at 7 PM, at Vila Vipolže. The event is part of the international project GO!2025 – Borderless Nova Gorica and Gorizia – European Capital of Culture.

Curated by Elisabetta Zerial, the exhibition is part of the broader Amnesie cycle, which connects ten contemporary artists across four selected cultural venues within the cross-border region. Vila Vipolže will host two unique artistic projects that explore, with subtle sensitivity, the relationships between collective memory, personal narratives, and forgetting:

Giordano Floreancig – presents a series of fictional portraits, painted in oil on canvas, using a material-based technique full of tension. These faces, which have never existed yet appear entirely plausible, speak to the viewer: Who are you, if you’re unable to remember where you come from? In this context, identity emerges as a mosaic pieced together from forgotten or distorted fragments.
Massimo Gardone – presents a visual exploration of amnesia through landscape and environment. His photographs of nature, devoid of human presence, become poetic reflections on what landscape memory preserves, erases, or transforms—inviting a deep contemplation of the relationship between humans, nature, and time.

With its rich historical layers, Vila Vipolže becomes more than just an exhibition space—it becomes an architecture of memory, a place where art and history converge, where loss gives way to regeneration.
